In the event of large scale emergencies the UK government has issued advice about the sort of emergency supplies you should have in the home and in your car. This page has more information about what you need and some suppliers of items that you might want to own.

It is advised that you have supplies to enable you to stay in your home for at least three days. These might include:

- torch and spare batteries
- blankets/sleeping bags
- camping stove
- bottled water
- candles and matches
- long-life food
- personal medication
- first aid kit
- battery powered radio and spare batteries
- tin opener
If you have to evacuate your home, you should pack a bag with the following supplies:
- cash, credit and debit cards and other small valuable items which might be unsafe if you left them behind
- passport and other important documents e.g. birth certificates, insurance documents etc
- essential keys e.g. house, car or office keys
- any medication that is needed
- glasses or contact lenses (including cleaning solution)
- a change of clothing, footwear and night clothes
- washing, shaving and sanitary supplies
- any special items for babies, children, elderly and disabled people
- torch, small radio and batteries
- mobile phone and charger
- supply of appropriate food/water etc
- entertainment e.g. a book or magazine
- pet carrier/lead, appropriate food and water and documentation if they needed to be cared for in a boarding kennel/cattery
- are your pets looked after and safe?
Emergency Supplies in your Car
We would recommend that you keep an emergency supply kit in your car:
- First Aid Kit
- Torch (and batteries)
- Bottled water
- Long life snacks
- Cigar plug lead for your mobile phone
- A list of useful telephone numbers e.g. garage
