Welcome
Started as a response to the flooding of 2012, the aim of this website is to collect together a lot of information and links in one place so that they are readily available when needed. The focus is on the town of Malmesbury in Wiltshire and the surrounding villages in the Malmesbury Community Area, but lots of the information should be useful wherever you are.
FLOOD INFORMATION
The UK Government's Flood Information Service is the place to go to get up to date news about flood alerts and risks.
RIVER LEVELS
The Environment Agency has monitoring stations on the rivers around Malmesbury. You can see the latest information which is constantly updated by following the links below. They include an indication of how close the levels are to causing flooding.
There is also a summary of the current flood alert status for the Upper Bristol Avon at this link:

IMMINENT THREAT OF BEING FLOODED OR DEALING WITH A FLOOD?
Check on the Malmesbury Flood Info - Facebook site to see if there's any sandbags and other equipment/materials available locally when floods are predicted. This group has worked really well in previous floods with volunteers distributing free sandbags to those in need and helping to move furniture, and the community getting together to advise on local flooding and road conditions. Really worth a visit, especially when it starts pouring down!
Sandbags
How to build a sandbag flood barrier Sandbags are simply cloth or plastic bags that hold sand or soil so that a low wall can be built to dam the flow of water. Lay plastic sheeting under and around the wall to make it more water tight. Hold the plastic in place using sandbags. Building a sandbag wall (Fire service video) Sandbags - how to use them for flood protection (Environment Agency PDF guide) Where can you get sandbags? Wiltshire Council: "The Council may provide a limited supply of sandbags free of charge to domestic properties that have been flooded, or are in imminent danger of flooding. The supply will be prioritised by level of need, or vulnerability for example the elderly or infirm and the protection of commercial property to prevent environmental pollution. We will not supply sandbags in advance based on forecasts and you cannot collect sandbags from any of our depots. If your property is in imminent danger of flooding please telephone 0800 232323 or out of hours call 01722 413834 to request assistance."
